There are fun facts about Egypt that will probably amaze you. In ancient Egypt, both men and women wore make-up. The belief was that make-up had healing power. It was also used as protection from the sun. Children in Egypt did not wear clothes until they were in their teens. The men wore skirts and women wore dresses. Enough about fashion, though.

Additionally, there are fun facts about Egypt in the medical field. When you suffer from an infection you go to the doctor and get antibiotics. Not in Egypt. When the Egyptians had an infection the treatment was to eat moldy bread. Honey and milk were prescribed for respiratory ailments and the more common sore throat. One of the strangest medical practices was to use crocodile dung to prevent conception. You can only wonder what the concept was behind that treatment.

The Egyptians believed that their cats were sacred. If a fire or other problem happened in a building, the cats were removed first. Once that was taken care of, then the people could be helped. I’m sure there were quite a few times when there were people wishing they were a cat.

The Egyptians also consumed an interesting diet. Beer was almost always the drink off choice. So it seems happy hour was a continuous time period. Beer and bread was a staple for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack and happy hour. The term happy hour is not used loosely as they were known to do their share of partying. Food was served to them in pottery bowls. However, they did not have utensils to eat with like we do. It was hands in the food all the way. They did have an abundance of fruits and vegetables to eat.

As far as inventions, we owe a debt of gratitude to the Egyptians for a number of items we use today. These items include the calendar and the clock. They also invented scissors and toothpaste. Interestingly enough though, the fact many people do not know, is that the Egyptians invented the toilet seat.
